The sun may be scorching outside, and we wish we could spend more time on our playground, but it is SO nice to be back! The classroom is again buzzing with activity.
Summertime can be a chaotic. We travel, go to various summer camps, grandparents visit. It’s hot outside, so we go to movies, stay home to play games, and go swimming (a lot!). But through it all, kids are kids. And over those few weeks, children change. In a new environment, they acquire new habits and skills. But Dr Montessori reminds us that through it all, we see that “children totally change as they acquire a love for things and as their sense of order, discipline, and self-control develops within them…. The child is both a hope and a promise for mankind.” This is why we teach.
This is why our young students easily and happily to return to the orderly classroom. On Monday our students jumped right in from the sweaty playground to a classroom with full shelves–full of materials new and old. We counted astronauts and collaged stars. We built with blocks and spun cylinders. We practiced our letters and even build a spiral labyrinth!
It is SO nice to be back. Our hearts are full again.
