I am excited to join the Highland Montessori School Team as an intern for this school year! I have always loved being with children and have over 15 years of caring for and educating children. I got my degree in Environmental Studies from Carleton College and had a brief career as a community organizer before completing my teaching certificate at Austin Community College. I taught 3rd grade (2 years) and Kindergarten (3 years) at a traditional public school in Manor before leaving to stay at home with my now 2 year old.
I was very fortunate to be able to run my own in-home, Montessori inspired daycare from the time my daughter was 7 months until now. That experience, along with Montessori parenting, and teaching in traditional school solidified my desire to get my Montessori certification. I am currently undergoing my year of study to complete my AMS Montessori certificate.
I enjoy bringing my loves of nature, math, literacy, and social justice into the classroom. I find great joy in preparing the environment and observing children and their growth. I am also excited to be an HMS parent as my child joins the community as well. Outside of school and learning about child development, I love to cook with my wife, Malia, play board games, and go foraging and bird watching.
